“HOLIDAY STOP” - Wednesdays 7th, 14th and 21st August, 10.00am - 1.00pm in St John the Baptist church hall.

The PCC agreed in May that we should run three sessions of ‘Holiday Stop’ again this year, providing activities and a sit-down lunch for primary school aged children (and their families).

We have been offered grant money to provide the activities and the food - there will be Circus Skills and Giant Bubbles on the first two sessions, and Drumming on the third.

Helpers are needed to welcome and register the children, to assist them in taking part,  buy, prepare and serve the lunch,  clear up the lunch,  and offer some games/crafts at the start of the session.

There will be a meeting of all who can offer help on Thursday 11th July at St John’s, after the (brief) Meeting of Parishioners.    Please come along and find out how you could be involved.  If you can offer help but cannot attend on 11th, please give your name to Revd Gilly or Carol Cowen.

Waymark 2019

On October 12th & 13th October 2019, lay and clergy representatives from across Durham Diocese will be gathering at the Xcel Centre, Newton Aycliffe. The purpose of the conference, which is called Waymark, is to reflect on mission, leadership and culture change in our diocese and to prayerfully discern the way ahead.  In launching Waymark in November 2018, Bishop Paul said:  ‘This conference, and the build-up to it over the coming months, mark a critical period in the life of our Diocese.  We have named the conference Waymark, as our gathering will be an important step on our journey; a moment of arrival, of pausing for reflection, and then moving ahead together.  The Waymark weekend will be a mixture of guest contributions, group and informal discussions, as well as opportunities for quiet reflection and prayer. Please take a prayer card home with you today if you have note already got one.

We are invited to send two lay people from the parish, along with Revd Stuart, to this conference which will be attended by representatives from every parish in the diocese.  The purpose is to reflect on God’s mission in our diocese, especially in the three priority areas of Children and Young People, Poverty and Growth, sharing stories and discerning the focus for the way forward.

We are looking for two people who are prepared to be actively involved within the mission of the parish, and willing to participate both to the build up to the conference, and to the conference itself.    There will be an opportunity to look at the pre-conference material in a wider group beforehand.  Would you like to attend?  Or could you suggest someone else who could represent us?  Please speak to one of the Clergy with your suggestions, and keep those preparing to attend in your prayers.
